Farai was a founding Trustee and first chairperson of ZHTS in 2006. He studied medicine at the University of Zimbabwe and trained as a specialist in Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine in Zimbabwe and Britain. He has worked in Britain, Botswana and Zimbabwe, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate anaesthesia and critical care medicine at the University of Botswana and University of Zimbabwe.
He was the founding Chairperson of the Department of Health Professions Education at UZ and currently teaches in the Master’s in HPE at UZFMHS. Farai is also a founding Fellow of the College of Anaesthesia of East Central and Southern Africa (CANECSA). His particular research interest is in the contribution of anaesthesia to improving maternal health and surgical outcomes, and he has published several papers on the underlying causes of maternal deaths in Botswana and Zimbabwe and participated in the African Surgical Outcomes Studies (ASOS).
